ALL ABOUT
OUR CLUB
THE PLACE
built on heritage
The Lachute Golf Club is at the heart of the community for almost 100 years. Founded by one of the city’s pioneers, Gilbert E. Ayers, the club was further developed by other big names such as the renowned golf architect Stanley Thompson and his protégé, Howard Watson, who also became a Hall of Fame builder himself.
The club has had the honour of hosting legends such as Arnold Palmer, Lee Trevino, Nick Price and LPGA legend Judy Rankin who won the 1977 Canadian Women’s Open (Peter Jackson Classic) that was hosted on the Thompson Course.
In that era, the club was recognized as one Canada’s top golf clubs but by the turn of the century, its reputation had dwindled. In 2018, the club was sold to the Boda Group who hired a new management team that would revive the club. With major investment in equipment and technology along with constant efforts to restore the golf courses to their original design, the club and its reputation are resurging along with its growing membership that makes the club a great place to belong.

THE COURSES
classic Canadian golf
On the club’s 500-acre property, golfers enjoy selecting from two championship-calibre golf courses, which is never an easy choice. Both were designed by renowned Canadian architects and our goal is to pay hommage to their plans by recognizing their intentions and constantly restoring features from their original designs.
THE THOMPSON COURSE
Built nearly 100 years ago by Stanley Thompson, the property had much fewer trees than today, so we are constantly managing new growth. This improves playing conditions by giving the turf more sunlight and improving air circulation. While tree removal improves playability, we have restored a more challenging feature from yesteryear; the above-ground hazards that are found in the form of bumps with tall grass are a signature feature by design that challenges the golfer while creating a pleasing aesthetic contrast.
THE WATSON COURSE
Built in 1961 by Stanley Thompson’s protege, Howard Watson, the Watson Course was to become the « Members’ Course ». For that era, it was a layout that pushed the limits of golf course design. The course meanders around the extremity of the property without coming back to the clubhouse until the 18th hole. With no two holes alike, the course features elevation changes, water hazards, deep bunkers and tree-lined fairways. Stretching to nearly 7000 yards, it remains a great challenge for any golfer still today.

OUR PROJECTS
everything in the name of golf
To strike the balance between quality and value, our club needs to make strategic decisions on where to spend time and money. With golf being our core product, our goal is to invest everywhere that helps us improve the golfing experience for our players, one step at a time. Here are a few projects that allows us to offer a better product year after year.
OUR ENVIRONMENT
an ecosystem to coexist
It’s never been more important for golf clubs to be conscious of the natural ecosystems on which they’re built. With careful attention, intentions and planning, making a golf club more ecological can be more economic, sustainable and even more fun for golfers! Thanks to the diverse knowledge of our Grounds Crew and our Superintendent, our club has undertaken several initiatives to support the ecosystem on our property.
Our ecology initiatives
Long grass areas: By identifying secluded areas around the property to allow grass to grow, we save on fuel and create areas for wildlife to prosper. Furthermore, manhours saved are used to improve playability of crucial areas on the golf courses. The areas of high grass also have an esthetic benefit of creating contrast that embellishes the look of a golf hole.
Tree management: Although cutting trees may seem destructive, doing so selectively has a major improvement on the quality of turf by improving air circulation and access to sunlight. This allows us to use fewer chemical products and save time, money and the environment. Once again, this also improves esthetics and playability.
Bird & bee sanctuaries: To offer natural ecosystems a place to thrive and to offset current and future urban developments that are happening around Lachute, we have created bee sanctuaries around the property and an immense bird sanctuary between holes 6 and 11 on the Watson Course where we have planted fruit trees that will attract birds and insects.
Audubon society: The sum of our efforts has allowed us to apply to become certified by the Audubon Society where we will have further access to knowledge and methods to preserve the ecology on our property.
OUR OFFER
PUBLIC:
Public players have full access to both of our golf courses at all times and can register up to 8 days in advance. As a community club, we strive to offer rates that are affordable with even more savings available in our online shop.
MEMBERS:
We are flattered by the interest of players from all regions that want to be a part of our club but we also offer a beneficial introductory membership for players residing in the Argenteuil MRC. With so much demand, we have had to cap each membership category in order to preserve tee time availability for all our players. Players wishing to join the club are encouraged to apply to join our waiting list and also consult our « Promotions » section to consider buying game packs until a membership becomes available.
